Riis photography career started in 1880s where a job for a crime photographer opened up in his area. He applied, took multiple pictures and soon, only after 2 weeks quit because his police chief was corrupt. It was only days later when Riis found his talent for photography, so Riis discovered that New York was brimming with cultivated beauty within the smoggy downtown is where he made multiple albums based off of the smoggy and polluted, like the areas of poverty and lush and areas like the environment in wealthy areas. He retired in 1913 to settle down for his last year of life.
